Moving Guide

Complete Home Shifting Checklist

What to sort out before moving day, on the day itself, and once you've arrived — for a local or intercity home move.

4–6 weeks before

  • Walk through your home room by room and decide what's moving, what's being sold or donated, and what's being discarded — this shapes how much packing and transport you'll actually need.
  • Get in touch for a quotation once you have a rough moving date, even if it isn't final. Confirming availability early gives more flexibility on scheduling.
  • If you're moving intercity, start collecting documents you'll need at the new address (ID proof, rental or property papers, school records if relevant).

2 weeks before

  • Confirm your moving date and any specific requirements (car transportation, storage gap, unpacking assistance) so they're accounted for in planning.
  • Start packing items you won't need in the next two weeks — books, out-of-season clothes, decor.
  • Use up perishable food and plan to empty the fridge/freezer a day or two before the move.
  • Note down existing utility connections (electricity, gas, internet) so you know what to transfer or close at the old address.

Moving day

  • Keep a separate bag with essentials — medicines, chargers, a change of clothes, important documents — that doesn't get packed with everything else.
  • Label boxes by room, not just contents, so unloading is faster at the other end.
  • Do a final walkthrough of every room, cupboard and balcony before the team leaves, so nothing gets left behind.

After you arrive

  • Check what's been unloaded against what was packed, especially for an intercity move.
  • Unpack essentials first — kitchen basics, bedding, bathroom items — before tackling the rest at your own pace.
  • Register or transfer utilities at the new address if you haven't already.

This checklist is general guidance. For anything specific to your move — size of home, distance, or vehicle transport — it's easiest to just ask when you get your quotation.
